چکیده

Using a cosmological galactic evolutionary approach to model the Milky Way, we calculate the star formation history (SFH) of the solar neighborhood. The good agreement we obtain with the observational inferences suggests that our physical model describes accurately the long term/large spatial trends of the local and global Milky Way SFH. In this model, star formation is triggered by disk gravita-tional instabilities and self-regulated by an energy balance in the ISM. The drivers of the SFH are the cosmological gas infall rate and the gas surface density determined by the primordial spin parameter. A ΛCDM cosmology was used throughout.

We investigate the relation between the characteristics of the circumnuclear stellar population and both the galaxy morphology and the presence of close companions for a sample of 35 Seyfert 2 nuclei. Fifteen galaxies present unambiguous signatures of recent episodes of star formation within ≈300 pc from the Jansky Fellow Gemini Fellow

We calculate the observable signatures of the first generation of stars at high redshift (5 < z < 100). To determine the cosmic star– formation history, we use an extension of the Press–Schechter formalism for Cold Dark Matter (CDM) cosmologies that incorporates gas pressure. We calibrate the fraction of gas converted into stars to be 6% so as to reproduce the 1% solar C/H ratio observed in the...

We study the evolution of the global stellar mass density in a Λ cold dark matter (ΛCDM) universe using two different types of hydrodynamical simulations (Eulerian TVD and SPH) and the analytical model of Hernquist & Springel (2003). We find that the theoretical calculations all predict both a higher stellar mass density at z ∼ 3 than indicated by current observations, and that the peak of the ...

The formation of the first stars and quasars marks the transformation of the universe from its smooth initial state to its clumpy current state. In popular cosmological models, the first sources of light began to form at a redshift z = 30 and reionized most of the hydrogen in the universe by z = 7. Current observations are at the threshold of probing the hydrogen reionization epoch. The study o...
